On November 17, 2017, Officer Brian Shaw was shot and killed during a traffic stop in the City of New Kensington, Pennsylvania. Officer Shaw was a lifelong resident of the City of Lower Burrell, and graduated from Burrell High School, Slippery Rock University and the Allegheny County Police Academy. Officer Shaw was hired as a full-time police officer in the City of New Kensington during the summer of 2017. During his short time in law enforcement, Officer Shaw left a lasting impression on the residents of the City of New Kensington and the Alle-Kiski Valley. He had a passion for service to his community and the people that he loved.
To honor Officer Brian Shaw and his dedication to the communities in which he lived and worked, a Memorial Scholarship Ride will take place each year. Information on this year’s ride can be found on our ride details and event details pages. Leaving from The Pittsburgh Shrine Center, the ride will travel through the City of New Kensington and surrounding communities, and return to the Pittsburgh Shrine Center for a Celebration Event. There, we will enjoy fellowship and festivities with riders and non-riders alike, with food, live entertainment and more. Proceeds from this Ride will go toward a scholarship at the Allegheny County Police Academy in Brian’s name.
The first Officer Brian Shaw Memorial Scholarship Ride was held in August 2018, and included 636 registered motorcycles and trikes, and has grown each year. We believe that, with your support and participation, we can create a lasting legacy to honor our fallen hero, Officer Brian Shaw.
