In order to apply for this scholarship, please respond in writing to the following essay question:
Officer Brian Shaw embodied many qualities, but perhaps the most important to him were
humility, integrity, dedication, and compassion. Please describe how these qualities are present
in your life (you may use examples where appropriate). Why are they important qualities that
every police officer should possess? Why do you wish to become a Police Officer?
The application will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee to determine which applicant is most deserving of the scholarship and best emulates the qualities that made Brian such an extraordinary citizen and public servant. The applicant’s written essay must not exceed three (3) pages, double spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman font (or equivalent). Applicants must be full-time cadets at the Allegheny County Police Academy whose tuition has not been paid by a municipality, government unit or military program such as the GI Bill. Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by a committee designated by the Officer Brian Shaw Memorial Scholarship Fund, and the recipient will be notified at graduation in the semester in which they are enrolled at the Academy.
